Companies House ID verification
This requirement was introduced in November 2025. During a 12-month transition period, every individual listed with Companies House; including Directors and Persons with Significant Control (PSCs) will be required to obtain a personal identification code.
Alongside the primary aim of verifying the identities, the intention is also to reduce the issue of duplicate identities within the Companies House register. For example, the same individual may previously have appeared under slightly different names or at different addresses following a move. This process will help link and consolidate those records into a single verified identity.
It is presented as a straightforward process whereby individuals can upload their own identity documents directly to complete verification. However, as we have already found with a number of our clients, the process is not always as simple in practice.
As an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP), this is where we can help, making the process as stress-free as possible. Below is a short summary of what we need to do in order to complete the verification standard in-line with Companies House requirements, after we have got you engaged as a client for this specific service.
This is a link to Companies House guidance on this topic: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/how-to-meet-companies-house-identity-verification-standard, and lists the information we are required to obtain which is also shown below:

From the above lists, in order to verify your identity we are required to obtain either:
- two documents from Group A; or
- where this is not possible, one document from Group A and one document from Group B.
Please note the expiry date requirements relating to passports, although there is no equivalent requirement for driving licences.
Once we have received this information, we must then verify that the documents relate to you. This is completed via a short meeting, either in person or by video call.
Following this, we can complete the verification process itself. As part of this, certain details from the documents provided must be submitted to Companies House (these details are not made publicly available).
Once completed, a personal code will be generated. We do not receive or have access to this code, as it is sent directly to your email address by Companies House. This is the code you will need to include on relevant filings, such as a Confirmation Statement, to confirm that your identity has been checked and verified.
So in short, we can make this process a lot easier for you. If of interest, please email us with your details via the contact form below, and we'll be in touch to arrange performing this work.
